The On-Reserve portion of the Freedom Road Project is the first phase of the project to be constructed. It involved the construction of 8.8 kms of road from the Shoal Lake 40 Community to the Reserve Boundary.

Key deliverables were the construction of a rockfill embankment, manufacturing and installation of various crushed rock layers, installation of drainage improvements and erosion control measures. Sigfusson Northern worked closely with the community of Shoal Lake 40 on this project and employed up to 55% local labor including local owner-operators.

The project was completed ahead of schedule and on budget largely in part due to the positive relationship formed between Sigfusson Northern and the Shoal Lake 40 Community.
